Last night saw the Defected crew descend onto San Antonio party palace Eden in force for what was one of the most exciting openings this season for two reasons. Firstly, we got to welcome back the iconic house music label after a season’s hiatus in which they focused on bringing their infectious sound to Croatia, and secondly, we got a first peak at the newly revamped Eden Ibiza, which is set for a cracker of a season after a refurbishment that saw state-of-the-art lighting and sound technology installed.
With many revellers heading straight to Eden’s dancefloor after a busy pre-party at Sunset Strip favourite Café Mambo, the atmosphere was already buzzing when we arrived. Clad in stark black, with sleek Void speakers blasting out crystal clear beats and melodies and neon blue light slicing through the darkness, there was no mistaking that the venue means business. And in securing Defected’s In Our House We Are All Equal residency, the team is set for a huge summer.
In the main room, Defected head honcho Simon Dunmore opened the night with an upbeat and steadily driving set that was dominated by chunky basslines and feel good tunes. With a big smile on his face as he expertly dropped one floorfiller after the next, the DJ and producer looked he was very happy indeed to bring back his label to the White Isle. Meanwhile, Eden’s new sound system proved itself so powerful we felt as if it could literally make our heart skip a beat in the middle of the party arena.
He was followed by turntable talent Sam Divine, who took the pace up a notch with a selection of deep and immersive tracks that was heavy on emotive vocals and all-time classic anthems. Clubbers responded with glee as she dropped crowd pleasers such as Pushing On by Oliver $ and Jimi Jules, Deep Inside by Hardrive, My House by Fingers Inc and Push The Feeling On by Nightcrawlers. The impressive new laser and light show helped to intensify the experience further, making us feel like we had entered a parallel universe of magic and wonder as it bathed the room in dramatic blues and purples.
Meanwhile, in the second room, island-favourites Andy Baxter and Manu Gonzalez were playing an energetic B2B set, improvising and firing each other on in the booth and easily rivalling the main room in intensity and energy. What was also amazing to see was how much each of the DJs was enjoying their time in the booth, engaging with the crowd and allowing their passion for music to sweep them up.
As the night progressed into the small hours, the party kept building still, with MK taking to the booth in the main room underneath the giant glitter ball that reflected shards of glittering light across the venue. Letting his signature sexy and cool sound wash over Eden, there wasn’t a space left on the dance floor as people let lose to the flawless beats offered to them. With the party still going strong as the clocks approached early morning, it’s fair to say that Defected’s return to Ibiza was a huge success, making itself right at home in its new party mansion at Eden Ibiza.
